Interviews - W3i
So the past few weeks have been intertwined with interviews as we are looking for an additional System Admin and Office Support positions.
We have received a good deal of resumes for the positions and have been having a hard time looking over all of the applicants in a timely manner.
I always have a hard time looking at what people put in a resume as I feel some are poorly written and filled with acronyms (spamming the filters) but fail to point out what the individual has accomplished in past opportunities.
My hardest thing to overcome is I am by nature a very techie person and would enjoy nothing else then to sit down and discuss with everyone their past work experiences. Many people come across my desk in projects that I would love to know more about, understand the logic of the project and how it worked out for them. For many reading this - Central MN despite what some may say - is not a tech community. Its hard to find people that actually enjoy discussing ITIL, SAN infrastructure, process flows, paging environments, web caching and so on. Its this synergy that excels our leadership, innovation, community, strategy and adds enlightenment to an otherwise dull MN winter.
I always enjoy traveling to areas like Boston, NY and Cali to even overhear conversations about implementations and new ideas. I feel guilty for overhearing some but it seems to act like a breath of fresh air in times of feeling like we may be the only one doing this.
Next best thing? Every Thursday night our company seems to get together at the local hangout and discuss new ideas, technology and things that relate to us day-by-day. I think that it keeps a lot of us sane on a weekly basis.
Come on MN - Lets pick up the pace! =)
